How is Type 1 Ironstone made?
Kent is known for its ironstone quarries, and it is usually mined from there. This substance is a brown-colored, extremely hard rock, and crushed ironstone is graded from 80mm down.
What is it used for?
Ironstone type 1, 50mm and below, is essential in the creation of driveways, non-adopted roads and also car parks. It’s also useful as a superb quality fill material or for use in sub-bases, and utilised for horse equestrian arena bases.
It should be noted that while this aggregate meets the needs of type 1 grading, it cannot be used for highway applications as it is not classed as an MOT aggregate. It is however perfect for driveways, pathways and any other sub-base needs in the home garden.
