Why is Peat-Free Compost Important?

If peatlands are disturbed during peat extraction for making compost, this can result in damage to biodiversity. 

Peatlands are also valuable carbon stores, and disturbing them will release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions. Peatlands can also help alleviate flood risk, so leaving them intact is also important for this reason. 

This is why we’ve pledged to never stock peat-containing compost, allowing customers to meet their own green goals and to support sustainable landscaping practices.
